My Japan recap + a travel essential for your next trip

Happy Thursday!

I'm home from Japan, and if you noticed by my lack of an email last week... the jetlag took me out! However, Japan was absolutely incredible and is now easily one of my new favorite countries.

I'll have my full review of the trip in next week's newsletter, and Japan YouTube videos are coming VERY soon!

Until then, I wanted to talk about one thing I NEVER travel without:

Travel Insurance

One of the things I get asked about the most is travel insurance. Should you get it, and if so, which one?

Absolutely, you should have travel insurance, as you never know when things may go wrong. SafetyWing is my go-to for travel insurance because it covers so much, is easy to purchase for days or months, and is affordable. It’s a great option whether you're going on a short trip or traveling long term.

What Travel Insurance Usually Covers:

  • Trip Cancellation or Interruption: If you need to cancel or cut your trip short for a covered reason (like illness or a family emergency), you can get a refund for non-refundable bookings.
  • Emergency Medical Coverage: This is especially important if you're traveling internationally. It can cover doctor visits, hospital stays, or even medical evacuation.
  • Lost or Delayed Baggage: Some policies will reimburse you for essentials if your luggage gets delayed or cover the value of your things if they’re lost or stolen.
  • Flight Delays or Cancellations: If your flight gets delayed or canceled, you might get reimbursed for hotels, meals, or rebooking costs.
  • Rental Car Coverage: Some policies include collision coverage for rental cars, which can help avoid paying extra at the rental counter.

When You Should Consider It:

  • You’re traveling internationally.
  • Your trip is expensive or non-refundable.
  • You’re going somewhere with limited medical facilities.
  • You want extra peace of mind in case of delays or cancellations.

Other Options to Know About: Many credit cards also include travel insurance, especially premium travel cards. Personally, I get SafetyWing on top of my credit card insurance to make sure I’m fully covered, especially for medical expenses or trip delays.

I break down how travel insurance works and the benefits of using SafetyWing in my blog post about travel insurance.

Having the right coverage can save you money, time, and stress if something goes wrong. It’s worth taking a few minutes to understand what your trip needs.

As always, you can follow along with my current travels on Instagram and Facebook, or reply to this email if you want to chat about insurance... or something more exciting!

Have a great weekend :)

At TBEX North America 2025 in Quebec City Happy Thursday! I spent last week exploring a couple cities in Canada, and it was such a great time. First, I was in Quebec City for a travel conference called TBEX where me and a bunch of other bloggers and travel creators learn, network, and most importantly, have some fun! Then I met my mom in Toronto and I absolutely fell in love with the city. It reminds me of Chicago in a way, but more compact. If you're ever in Toronto, don't miss out on the...
